When class began, wordlessly he picked up a large<br \/>\nempty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, rocks<br \/>\nabout 2&#8243; in diameter.<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.<br \/>\nSo the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them<br \/>\ninto the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course,<br \/>\nrolled <span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">into<\/span> the open areas between the rocks.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">The students laughed. The professor picked up a box of sand and<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">poured<\/span> it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything   else.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;Now,&#8221; said the professor, &#8220;I want you to recognize that this is<br \/>\nyour life. The rocks are the important things &#8211; your family, your<br \/>\npartner, your health, your children &#8211; anything that is so important<br \/>\nto you that if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;The pebbles are the other things that matter like your job, your<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">house,<\/span> your car.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;The sand is everything else. The small stuff.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;If you put the sand into the jar first, there is no room for the<br \/>\npebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life. If you spend<br \/>\nall your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have<br \/>\nroom for the things that are important to you.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">Play<\/span> with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take   your<br \/>\npartner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">the<\/span> house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\"><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\"> <\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">&#8220;Take care of the rocks first &#8211; the things that   really matter. Set<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">your <\/span><span style=\"color: #800000; font-size: x-small;\">priorities.
